Basel
World 2013 (world watch and jewellery trade show) has officially kicked
off and The Versatile Gent is already on the case to bring you a
selection of the best new offerings from the world’s top horology
brands. Today we start with Rolex
and whilst 2012 was a year of the brand new Sky-dweller model, 2013 is
just as exciting for the Rolex purists out there with new variations of
some of their most popular watches namely the Day-Date, the GMT-Master
II, the Yacht-Master II and our favourite the Daytona.
The traditionally conservative brand has thrown back to the Stella dials of the 70’s and released 6 new colour variations of their iconic Day-Date with matching dials and leather straps. The 6 watches utilise the calibre 3155 self-winding movement and have cases made from 3 different types of gold, all paired with a colour that aims to compliment the precious metal. Green or Cognac for the 18 ct yellow gold versions; Blue or Cherry for 18 ct white gold models; and Chocolate, or a more classic Rhodium dial with a black strap, for cases in 18 ct Everose gold.
Stay tuned for more coverage of the 2013 Basel World show with updates as we pick our favourite watches across the show and also look at some mechanically outrageous timepieces pushing innovation in the industry.

The new GMT-Master II for the first time
features a split colour ceramic bezel in blue, representing day and
black, representing night. The Yachtmaster II receives it’s first steel
case and also features a blue ceramic bezel insert.
Finally the watch made famous by the coolest man in the world, Mr
Paul Newman gets a 50th anniversary makeover in platinum and a stunning
light blue and the world is rejoicing. The 2013 Cosmograph Daytona
features a platinum case (another first for Rolex) with a chestnut brown
monobloc Cerachrom ceramic bezel and an ‘ice blue’ dial. This will
surely be one of the most collectable watches of the 21st century!Stay tuned for more coverage of the 2013 Basel World show with updates as we pick our favourite watches across the show and also look at some mechanically outrageous timepieces pushing innovation in the industry.
